The 2024 autumn firewood collection season is open from Friday 1 March until Sunday 30 June.

Please view the Regional State Forest maps to identify firewood collection areas in your region and information that may be specific to your region. You can download and print an updated map of where firewood can be collected in your area.

There is no guarantee that firewood will be available for collection in the domestic firewood collection area after it has been opened.

If there is a high fire danger risk, the firewood collection season may be shortened to reduce risk. Do not enter the forest on days of Catastrophic fire rating.

Some firewood collection areas may close at short notice due to a planned burning activity. New firewood collection areas may also open throughout the season.

Most people follow the rules and do the right thing by our environment, there are penalties for those who don’t. Read about firewood regulations and penalties here: Conservation Regulator website.

Planned Burning

Access to firewood collection areas may be disrupted at times due to work on roads, tracks and firebreaks, and especially due to planned burns during autumn. Please continue to check this webpage and Planned Burns Victoria to make the most of firewood collection opportunities early in the season.

Areas across the Grampians Region are currently significantly impacted by bushfires. As a result of this, domestic firewood collection areas will be opened gradually throughout the autumn collection season to ensure everyone’s safety. Please check the website to see which sites are open before you head out to collect firewood.

With the fire situation continuously changing, please also ensure you check the Vic Emergency website before heading out to a firewood collection site -  Incidents and Warnings - VicEmergency

We will open additional domestic firewood collection areas as soon as it is safe to do so.

Roads may be closed at short notice to manage safety issues relating to either the current fires across the Grampians region or storm recovery works occurring in the Wombat State Forest.

For further information on current road closures, please visit - Forest and road closures (ffm.vic.gov.au)
