Seasonal Project Firefighters

Seasonal Project Firefighters complement our permanent firefighting staff and are responsible for bushfire suppression and prevention activities including planned burning. Many project firefighters return from previous years, bringing with them valuable skills and experience. All firefighters are trained comprehensively before being involved in fire operations.

Positions are available each year (generally between November and April) and include:

• firefighter (includes designated Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people positions)
• rappel crews (specialist firefighting roles performed in remote locations)
• fire support officers (predominantly administrative roles).

Forest Fire Operations Officers

Forest and Fire Operations Officers (FFOO) are field staff who deliver forest management activities in Victoria's state forests and undertake fire management and firefighting activities in Victoria's national parks, state forests and protected public land.

Team members operate within work centres and are responsible for implementing a wide range of operational tasks and fire prevention activities. There is a strong focus on emergency response and may involve deployment across the state for both emergency response and planned burning activities.
