A trainer and two trainees during a chainsaw training

We're celebrating recent cultural fire achievements.

At Beaconsfield Nature Conservation Reserve, Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) and Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) recently came together for a day focused on strengthening skills and supporting ongoing care for Country.

The training provided an opportunity for Bunurong staff to refresh their tree felling skills, a key capability in managing the reserve, where they are the Committee of Management.

This work plays an important role in removing invasive pine trees and improving the health of the landscape.

Beyond immediate land management outcomes, the training also supports future cultural fire activities.

By building confidence and capability in tree felling, participants are better equipped to undertake burn preparation and contribute to broader natural resource management objectives on Country.

Delivered by FFMVic, the session formed part of ongoing fire-related training and capacity building, supporting Traditional Owners to lead and strengthen their role in land management.

The day also provided an opportunity to share knowledge, reinforce safe work practices and continue building strong partnerships.

Activities like this highlight the importance of working together to care for Country – combining practical skills with cultural knowledge to support long-term environmental outcomes.
